Khartoum, Nabaa Sudan — The Preparatory Committee for the Sudanese-Sudanese Dialogue announced that it had reached understandings with representatives of the five-member mechanism and regional and international diplomatic missions on supporting the Sudanese dialogue, noting broad areas of convergence between its efforts to bring Sudanese parties together at the dialogue table and international and regional efforts to end the war.
Mohamed Al-Monir, head of the committee’s office responsible for engagement with regional and international countries and organizations, said the meeting held on Wednesday was productive and helped provide international and regional stakeholders with a clearer understanding of the committee’s work and objectives.
He said the discussions addressed a number of questions regarding the possibility of conducting dialogue while the war continues.
Al-Monir explained that the committee maintains that dialogue can contribute to ending the war, rather than requiring an end to fighting before a political process can begin. He pointed to international experiences demonstrating that communication and dialogue can continue alongside armed conflicts.
He revealed that the committee has begun consultations with civil society organizations, youth groups, and various community-based groups, while preparing to engage political forces inside and outside Sudan. The aim, he said, is to broaden participation and achieve an inclusive, non-exclusionary dialogue, stressing that the committee is working to involve groups with which it has not yet been able to establish contact.
