Khartoum (Nabaa Sudan) – Sudan on Wednesday rejected a statement issued by the US Department of State on Sudan and reaffirmed its adherence to its national sovereignty.
In a statement issued by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, Sudan stressed that any peace initiative intended to succeed and endure must be founded on respect for Sudan’s sovereignty, unity, territorial integrity and legitimate national institutions.
The ministry said, “The rebellion by the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) militia on April 15, 2023 marked a turning point for Sudan and the entire region. Most of the world’s peoples and governments recognized the injustice inflicted upon Sudan, with the exception of a small number of states and entities that adopted a different narrative and sought to impose it on the ground.”
The statement added: “The Government of Sudan participated positively in the Jeddah negotiations, graciously sponsored by the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and the United States, which resulted in important understandings and commitments. Had these commitments been honored, they could have contained the conflict in its early stages and spared the Sudanese people the humanitarian tragedies and destruction that followed. However, the rebel militia reneged on those commitments and continued its crimes and violations, in clear subservience to external agendas and interests.”
The ministry explained: “The Government of Sudan approached US efforts to end the war within the framework of the Quartet in a constructive and responsible spirit, despite its publicly stated and legitimate reservations regarding one of the parties, given its internationally documented role in fueling the conflict through the provision of arms and financing and the recruitment of mercenaries. The Government of Sudan believes that no serious effort to achieve peace can ignore external interventions and the sources of illicit support for the rebellion that contribute to prolonging the war.”
The Foreign Ministry said: “The Government of Sudan followed with interest and appreciation the statements made by US President Donald Trump on November 19, 2025, in which he announced his administration’s intention to engage in efforts to end the war in Sudan, in response to the initiative graciously put forward by His Royal Highness Prince Mohammed bin Salman. That announcement strengthened the hopes of the Sudanese people that a breakthrough could be achieved leading to lasting peace. The Government of Sudan continues to view with appreciation the interest President Trump has expressed in ending wars, as well as his renewed emphasis in his address to the 81st session of the General Assembly on the importance of acting to end conflicts and preventing them from escalating.”
The ministry stated: “At the same time, while the Government of Sudan strongly rejects the statement issued by the US Department of State on September 22, 2026, it reaffirms its national sovereignty and calls on the United States to engage positively with the Sudanese government, as stated in its previous statements affirming respect for Sudan and its national sovereignty.”
The Government of Sudan stressed that any peace initiative intended to succeed and endure must begin with respect for Sudan’s sovereignty, unity, territorial integrity and legitimate national institutions, and must address the causes that have led to the continuation of the war, foremost among them negative external intervention. It further stressed that no political or negotiating process should become a means of legitimizing a reality created by the rebel force, rewarding the rebellion for its crimes against civilians, the state and its legitimate institutions, or placing the rebellion on an equal footing with those institutions.
The ministry noted that the Sudanese people aspire to a just and lasting peace that ends the existence of militias outside the framework of the state, ensures that arms are held exclusively by legitimate state institutions, and creates the conditions for a wholly Sudanese political process that fulfills the Sudanese people’s aspirations for democracy, peace and justice while preserving the country’s unity and sovereignty.
The statement concluded: “While affirming that peace remains its choice and strategic objective, the Government of Sudan reiterates its readiness to engage positively and responsibly with the United States and all regional and international partners, including Saudi Arabia, Qatar, Egypt, Russia, China, Türkiye and Pakistan, as well as the League of Arab States, the African Union (AC), the Organization of Islamic Cooperation, the Intergovernmental Authority on Development (IGAD) and the African Group of the Security Council (A3), which are working in good faith and with impartiality to end the war and achieve peace and stability in Sudan, on the basis of respect for its sovereignty, the will of its people and its national institutions, free from external dictates and interference.”
