SHENYANG, China, (Nabaa Sudan) — Sudan participated in the seventh China International Investment and Trade Conference and Fair in Liaoning Province, hosted by the city of Shenyang from September 23 to 25 under the theme “New Impetus for Opening Up, A New Chapter of Revitalization,” with the participation of around 3,000 officials and business representatives from more than 50 countries.
Sudan’s Ambassador to the People’s Republic of China, Omar Issa Ahmed, attended the opening ceremony in the presence of the Governor of Liaoning Province, a number of Chinese and international officials, heads and representatives of diplomatic missions and international organizations accredited to China, as well as business leaders and representatives of Chinese and foreign companies.
During the conference’s main session, the Ambassador delivered an address on prospects for economic, trade, and investment cooperation between Sudan and China, with a focus on opportunities for cooperation with Liaoning Province. He stressed the importance of benefiting from the province’s advanced industrial and technological capabilities, encouraging Chinese companies to explore investment opportunities available in Sudan, and contributing to efforts toward recovery, reconstruction, and development.
The Ambassador stressed the importance of moving economic relations between the two countries from communication and information exchange toward practical and sustainable projects and partnerships, noting that Sudan is moving toward a new phase of economic recovery and reconstruction, opening broad prospects for Chinese companies to participate in infrastructure, energy, agriculture, industry, mining, transport, and logistics projects.
In this context, the Ambassador welcomed the outcomes of the Beijing Summit of the Forum on China-Africa Cooperation (FOCAC), including initiatives and programs aimed at supporting development and industrialization in Africa and promoting trade and investment. He also expressed Sudan’s welcome for Chinese policies and initiatives aimed at expanding African products’ access to the Chinese market.
He noted that Sudan has promising opportunities to increase its exports to the Chinese market, particularly agricultural, livestock, and mineral products, in addition to a number of other products in which Sudan enjoys comparative and competitive advantages.
As part of Sudan’s participation, the Liaoning-Sudan Economic and Trade Communication and Matchmaking Conference was held during the expo, organized by the Liaoning Provincial Chamber of Commerce in cooperation with the Embassy of the Republic of Sudan in China, with the participation of a number of Chinese companies and businesspeople.
During the conference, the Embassy presented three papers addressing Sudan’s economic and investment opportunities and potential, with a focus on mining, agriculture, agro-processing, oil, and gas. Participating Chinese companies delivered presentations on cooperation opportunities in the energy, construction, equipment, and technology sectors.
The Embassy of the Republic of Sudan in China also established an information pavilion at the expo, showcasing Sudan’s economic and investment resources and potential, as well as opportunities available to Chinese companies and investors, thereby promoting awareness of the Sudanese market and opening the way for new partnerships and investments.
On the sidelines of the conference and expo, the Sudanese Ambassador held a number of meetings with representatives of Chinese companies operating in the electric power sector. The meetings discussed opportunities for cooperation and benefiting from Chinese expertise and technologies in rehabilitating and developing Sudan’s electricity sector.
Sudan’s participation also included visits to a number of industrial institutions and companies in Liaoning Province, including the provincial Federation of Industry and Commerce, Jinbei (Shenyang) Automobile, and TBEA. The meetings addressed opportunities for industrial, trade, and investment cooperation and explored areas in which Chinese companies and institutions could contribute to Sudan’s development and reconstruction efforts.
Ambassador Omar Issa Ahmed called on the participating Chinese companies to move from exploring opportunities to taking practical steps toward investment and partnership in Sudan by identifying priority sectors and projects and exploring cooperation opportunities, particularly in mining; agriculture and agro-processing; oil and gas; renewable energy; industrial and mining equipment and machinery; infrastructure; and logistics services.
He affirmed that the Sudanese Embassy in China will continue working to strengthen communication between Sudanese and Chinese private-sector entities and facilitate access to available investment opportunities, contributing to the establishment of long-term economic partnerships that support development in Sudan and strengthen the strategic partnership between Sudan and China.
It is worth noting that the China International Investment and Trade Conference and Expo in Liaoning Province, which began in 2020, is one of the province’s important platforms for promoting economic openness and trade and investment cooperation with international markets and connecting local companies and institutions with partners and investors from around the world.
