Governor of Darfur Region, General Minni Arko Minawi, affirmed that the door remains open for those willing to abandon the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) militia and align themselves with the nation and the Sudanese Armed Forces (SAF). He urged those who had been misled to return before it is too late, noting that a number of leaders had chosen to leave the militia and join the nation and the armed forces. He saluted all those who had chosen this path.
Addressing a seminar on Sunday at the Cultural Center in Omdurman, organized by the Kordofan and Darfur Journalists and Media Professionals Association in cooperation with the Sudan News Agency (SUNA) and the Center of Excellence for Press and Media Services and Training, Minawi underscored the importance of unity, rejecting rhetoric that divides the people, and putting the national interest first. The seminar focused on defections within the RSF militia.
Minawi also paid tribute to the armed forces and the Joint Forces, noting the progress they are making on several operational fronts. He stressed that the next phase requires joint action to liberate every inch of the national territory desecrated by the Al-Dagalo militia, after which the country can move forward with reconstruction and development.
He further called for continued efforts to ensure the return of all internally displaced persons (IDPs) and refugees to their areas, explaining that ending the suffering of civilians and wiping away the tears of affected families should be a shared national objective.
He stressed the important role played by the press and media at the current stage, urging media professionals to assume their responsibilities in supporting national issues and raising public awareness.
Minawi expressed hope that the seminar would produce practical recommendations that can be implemented and serve as a roadmap for the relevant authorities, contributing to addressing the issue of defections and strengthening national unity.
He also commended the Kordofan and Darfur Journalists and Media Professionals Association, SUNA, and the Center of Excellence for Press and Media Services and Training for organizing the seminar, stressing the importance of such forums in opening avenues for dialogue, reviving national issues, and strengthening social cohesion.
