Families Confirm Deaths of Two Detainees at Daqris Prison in South Darfur

Families of detainees from the town of Buram in South Darfur State have reported the deaths of Idris Mohamed Saleh, Director of the Locality’s Civil Service Affairs Office, and Ahmed Ismail Hussein inside Daqris Prison west of Nyala, after months of detention by the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) militia, according to accounts from their relatives and recently released detainees.

Idris’s family said he was arrested in February during a campaign by an RSF-affiliated force on accusations of supporting the army and was transferred to Daqris Prison, where he died — according to released detainees — in mid-March. They said he had reportedly suffered from a lack of medicine, food, and healthcare.

The family of Ahmed Ismail Hussein, who had returned from Saudi Arabia on a family visit, said he was arrested and taken to the same prison without being directly charged. They said news of his death reached them in mid-June through released detainees, with no information available about the cause of death.

The two families said they had received no official notification regarding the deaths or burial arrangements.
