Turkish Ambassador to Sudan: External Support for RSF Militia Must End

Türkiye's Ambassador to Sudan, Fatih Yıldız, called on the international community to take concrete action to halt activities by external actors supporting the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) militia, warning that continued backing for the group threatens security across Sudan.

In remarks to Anadolu Agency, Yıldız said recent RSF attacks on the city of El Obeid, the capital of North Kordofan State, were “a cause for concern,” noting that drone strikes and other military attacks carried out in recent weeks had adversely affected civilian life.

“The international community should not be satisfied with issuing statements alone,” he said. “It must take concrete steps to stop the activities of external actors supporting the Rapid Support Forces.”

The ambassador stressed that international appeals, while important, are insufficient on their own, adding that the RSF's previous military advances have heightened concerns over the current situation. “The priority is to stop the activities of external actors providing support to the Rapid Support Forces. Otherwise, the risks will not be confined to El Obeid but will persist in all areas under the group's control,” he said.

Yıldız reaffirmed Türkiye's support for the Sudanese government's roadmap, which calls for the withdrawal of the RSF from the territories under its control, saying a lasting settlement would only be possible once the force withdraws. He added that achieving this requires a more active role from the international community.

Reconstruction and Investment

Addressing Sudan's reconstruction phase, Yıldız said the return of Khartoum to government control in March 2025 accelerated the return of residents and the gradual recovery of economic activity.
He noted that the return of civilians is just as important as the return of state institutions, as renewed economic activity will help restore stability.
However, he said Khartoum's infrastructure has yet to recover sufficiently to accommodate its pre-war population, making reconstruction the country's foremost priority.

Yıldız highlighted the importance of the return of Turkish investors who operated in Sudan before the war. He said several Turkish companies have resumed operations since March 2025, including a factory south of Khartoum producing cement and gypsum boards. “Sudan needs Turkish businesspeople who know the country, and we are encouraging them to resume their activities,” he said.

He added that, despite displacement and migration, Sudan still has a population of between 35 and 40 million, all of whom need opportunities for production, employment, and economic development.

The ambassador said the Turkish Embassy and the commercial counsellor's office stand ready to provide all necessary support to investors.
He also noted that Turkish institutions continue to operate in Sudan, including Ziraat Participation Bank, which has begun operations in Port Sudan, while Turkish Airlines and the Turkish Cooperation and Coordination Agency (TİKA) continue their activities in the country.

Economic Activity and Security Cooperation

Yıldız said that although fighting continues in some parts of Sudan, economic activity remains possible across large areas of the country, particularly in territories under the control of the Sudanese Armed Forces.
He added that Türkiye's presence in Sudan extends beyond diplomatic representation through its embassy to include several public institutions.

Commenting on growing security cooperation between the two countries, Yıldız described it as a natural extension of the longstanding friendly relations between Türkiye and Sudan. “Türkiye cooperates with Sudan's legitimate government,” he said. “It is entirely natural for Türkiye to strengthen its security relations with a friendly country such as Sudan during difficult times.”
He expressed hope that bilateral security cooperation would evolve beyond defence supplies into a broader strategic partnership in the future.
