Minister of Finance Dr. Gebreil Ibrahim has reaffirmed the government’s commitment to prioritising spending on the health sector, stressing that healthcare services remain at the top of the national budget’s priorities.
During meeting on Tuesday with Minister of Health Dr. Haitham Mohamed Ibrahim, Finance Minister reiterated the state’s commitment to free treatment for children under five in government hospitals, as well as support for the treatment of chronic diseases.
Dr. Gebreil Ibrahim pledged to meet the requirements for early preparedness for health emergencies during the rainy season, and highlighted attention to addressing the conditions of workers in transferred hospitals across all states.
For his part, the Minister of Health praised the Finance Ministry’s efforts in supporting the health sector and improving the health environment necessary to facilitate the return of citizens to states affected by the war. He provided an overview of the current state of health services and outlined required support to meet citizens’ needs, including addressing the conditions of healthcare workers and doctors.
He also noted ongoing interventions by the Ministry of Health to address public health conditions in war-affected states, and announced that competent authorities had declared Sudan free of Ebola.
The Undersecretary of the Ministry of Finance, Dr. Mohamed Ali Juma, confirmed the ministry’s commitment to settling all outstanding health-related obligations under execution.
