Attorney General Intisar Ahmed Abdal-Aal, in her capacity as Chair of the National Committee of Investigation into Crimes and Violations of National Law and International Humanitarian Law, met with the President of the United Nations Human Rights Council, Siddharth Chatterjee, and senior members of his team in Geneva.
During the meeting, she reviewed the main findings of the Committee’s fifth interim report, outlining the progress of its investigations and judicial proceedings. She stressed that Sudan’s national judiciary is willing, capable, and adequately equipped to deliver justice, ensure accountability, and prevent impunity in accordance with the highest standards of independence and integrity.
The Attorney General also called for the application of the principle of complementarity through support for ongoing national efforts in the field of justice and accountability.
For his part, the Human Rights Council President said he had been following the work of the National Committee through its reports and statements presented to the Council. He referred to the existing cooperation between the Government of Sudan and the country office of the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights, as well as its engagement with the designated expert.
He also addressed the atrocities, violations, and humanitarian conditions in Sudan, expressing hope that the country would regain peace, security, and stability.
