The Senior Prosecutor and member of the National Committee for Investigating Violations, and representative of the Attorney General, Rawda Idris Abdel Gadir, affirmed that the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) militia used rape as a weapon of war, noting that reports of rape have reached 2,200 cases.
She made the remarks during the 57th informational briefing organized by the Sudan News Agency (SUNA) at the Cultural Centre in Omdurman, which hosted the National Committee for Mobilization and Popular Resistance to discuss the launch of documentation publications on militia violations across the states.
Rawda Idris explained that a dedicated task force has been formed to document cases of rape, in addition to establishing a committee in the “Al-Affadh” area in Northern State tasked with receiving complaints from residents of Darfur States, particularly from El Fasher.
She added that since the beginning of the war, several reporting platforms have been launched to protect civilians, noting that 80% of sexual violence reports are submitted through civil society organizations.
She further stated: “We place great reliance on the role of religious leaders and the media in removing the social stigma associated with rape,” pointing to cooperation with the International Committee of the Red Cross in this regard.
Regarding missing persons cases, she indicated that there is still no comprehensive documentation of detainees in areas controlled by the militia. On legal proceedings against militia leaders, she said that Interpol has been contacted, but no Red Notices have been issued so far, noting a lack of cooperation from countries that have been notified and provided with reports.
