Chad’s Ministry of Armed Forces and War Veterans announced a decision to demote two senior military commanders and dismiss them permanently from the armed forces over repercussions linked to the Sudan crisis.
According to the Chadian news website Rafik Info, the decree applies to Brigadier Bahr Soura Gerbo and Colonel Sabir Angourieh Suleiman. Their ranks were downgraded from “general officer” and “senior officer” to the lowest military rank of second-class private, and their membership in the armed forces was permanently revoked.
The website quoted informed military sources as saying that the decision followed public statements by Brigadier Bahr Soura, in which he criticized the Chadian government’s stance on the situation in Sudan and called for an end to what he described as support for the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) militia. The remarks were deemed a breach of military discipline and a violation of Chad’s officially declared neutral position on the Sudan crisis.
