Port Sudan (Nabaa Sudan) – China’s Chargé d’Affaires to Sudan, Xu Jian, affirmed his country’s rejection of any partition of Sudan or formation of a parallel government, stressing that the solution to the Sudanese crisis must be Sudanese-led, with respect for the country’s sovereignty, independence, unity and territorial integrity.
Speaking at the Port Sudan International Forum and the International Symposium on the Horn of Africa and the Red Sea, Xu said China supports mediation efforts undertaken by the United Nations and countries in the region. He added that China would continue working with the international community to help Sudan end the war, alleviate the humanitarian suffering and rebuild the country.
He noted that the forum represents an important platform for promoting peace and stability in the Horn of Africa. He explained that China put forward a vision for peace and development in 2022 to support countries in the region, adding that Chinese President Xi Jinping’s four principles emphasize respect for Africa’s ownership of solutions to its challenges.
Xu further stressed that Sudan’s stability is an integral part of peace in the Horn of Africa. He pointed out that China’s 15th Five-Year Plan would offer additional opportunities for countries in the region, coinciding with the China-Africa Year of People-to-People Exchanges and the 70th anniversary of diplomatic relations.
The forum was attended by the representative of the Red Sea State Wali, Finance Minister Mohamed Ali, and Vice-President of the Transitional Sovereignty Council Malik Agar, alongside experts and researchers from Sudanese and Chinese universities and regional and international organizations. China also sent senior experts to participate in the forum and follow up on its proceedings.
