Sudan's Ambassador to Ethiopia and Permanent Representative to the African Union (AU) and United Nations Economic Commission for Africa (UNECA), Al-Zain Ibrahim Hussein, met AU Special Envoy for the Prevention of Genocide and Other Mass Atrocities Adama Dieng.
Dieng briefed the ambassador on his recent mission to Sudan, his engagements with the AU and international partners, and his efforts to highlight violations committed by the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) militia against civilians.
The ambassador updated the envoy on developments in Sudan, saying the Sudanese Armed Forces (SAF) continue consolidating control over most of the country to protect civilians.
He described the conflict as external aggression backed by foreign support, including strategic drones and foreign mercenaries, rather than an internal war.
Al-Zain urged the envoy to engage more closely with Sudan's national human rights institutions, criticized the AU's slow response, and renewed Sudan's call to designate the RSF a terrorist organization.
He concluded by commending Dieng's presentation to the AU Peace and Security Council following his recent visit to Sudan.
