Suleima Izhag, Head of the Women and Child Advisory Office at the rank of a federal minister, has stressed that establishing an independent authority dedicated to women’s and children’s affairs would constitute significant recognition of their status, noting that “women in Sudan have paid the full price of this war.”

In an exclusive statement to Nabaa Sudan, Suleima Izhag said women and children deserve separate and independent bodies to address their issues, including economic empowerment, combating all forms of violence and violations against women, and improving their conditions.

The head of the advisory office explained that issues concerning children and the protection of women are complex, particularly amid armed conflict, requiring more independent bodies to address them with specialization and professionalism rather than having their concerns incorporated into numerous other issues.

She added that such bodies would provide protection and prevention services, promote well-being and social justice, and follow up on accountability and access to justice.

Suleima Izhaq stressed that no society can achieve stability without ensuring the status of women and recognizing their role in building the national economy and protecting society. She affirmed that women’s and children’s issues have political and social dimensions that require them to be addressed independently.
