Wali of Khartoum State Ahmed Othman Hamza rushed to the scene of an underground unexploded ordnance blast in Imtidad Nasir Neighbourhood, Block 1, which was triggered by burning waste.
The inspection took place in the presence of the Director of the National Mine Action Center, the Executive Director of Khartoum Locality, senior police officials, and the Director of the Intelligence Service of locality.
No casualties or material damage were reported despite the intensity of the blast, which caused widespread fear and panic among residents.
The Wali reviewed the security arrangements and precautionary measures implemented by the competent authorities to protect civilians and prevent potential risks. Measures included the establishment of a security cordon around the site until technical assessments were completed and the area confirmed free of additional threats.
He reiterated his appeal to residents to avoid burning waste in residential neighborhoods, especially in areas that previously hosted rebel militias, where explosive remnants may remain and pose a direct threat to lives and property.
The Wali affirmed that the state government is continuing its coordinated efforts with security agencies and relevant bodies to remove war remnants and secure residential areas, particularly in the context of ongoing voluntary returns. He urged the public to cooperate with authorities and report any suspicious objects to safeguard public safety and prevent similar incidents in the future.
