Istanbul, (Nabaa Sudan) – Minister of Justice Dr. Abdullah Dirif participated in the International Justice Summit, which was held in Istanbul, Republic of Türkiye, on 8–9 October 2026. The summit brought together justice ministers from several countries, notably Syria, Georgia, Bangladesh and Mozambique, as well as academics, parliamentarians, politicians, representatives of supreme courts and public prosecution offices, international organizations, judicial and legal experts and specialists, and diplomats.
The summit was held under the theme “The Future of Justice: A Shared Responsibility for Humanity,” hosted by the Turkish Ministry of Justice and attended by President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, who addressed the closing session. He affirmed that Türkiye would continue working to uphold the concept of justice and defend the oppressed, and would remain a safe haven for all those deprived of their rights. He added that Türkiye was determined to take action to strengthen international dialogue on the future of judicial systems, develop legal cooperation among countries, and discuss the challenges facing justice amid rapid international and technological changes.
At the opening session, Turkish Minister of Justice Akın Gürlek welcomed the participating delegations and stressed the importance of unifying international efforts to formulate a shared vision that promotes the principles of justice and the rule of law. Professor Saadet Yüksel, a judge at the European Court of Human Rights, also underscored the fundamental role of national judiciaries and domestic courts in protecting human rights, with international courts playing a complementary and supportive role.
The summit’s programme featured eight main sessions addressing several key issues, including the application of international humanitarian law and accountability principles, with a focus on the situation in Gaza; international arbitration and the future of the legal professions; international justice and human rights; legal responsibility for social media content; justice in the digital age; combating cybercrime; artificial intelligence; migration and shared responsibility; and the protection of human dignity.
The Sudanese Justice Minister’s participation forms part of Sudan’s engagement in international legal forums and provides an opportunity to exchange expertise and experience in developing judicial institutions, strengthening international judicial cooperation, and following discussions on international humanitarian law, human rights and combating transnational crime.
The summit’s proceedings are expected to help strengthen dialogue among participating legal and judicial institutions and explore areas of joint cooperation in support of the rule of law and improved access to justice at both national and international levels.
