Khartoum, (Nabaa Sudan) — Official spokesperson for the Sudanese-Sudanese Dialogue Preparatory Committee, Engineer Othman Mirghani, affirmed that the dialogue has not yet begun and that the committee is currently working to create a conducive environment and put in place the requirements for its launch. He noted that this phase includes identifying the parties to the dialogue, its agenda and priorities, and how different parties will participate.
Speaking after the committee’s meeting with the Democratic Bloc on Tuesday, Mirghani described the meeting as “very fruitful,” saying it featured discussions on various details related to preparing for the dialogue, as well as a number of questions and inquiries raised by the bloc, to which the committee provided answers. He said this would help build communication during the next phase.
Mirghani said the Democratic Bloc represents “one of the pillars” of the dialogue, noting that the positive spirit that prevailed during the meeting demonstrated the possibility of continuing consultations with political forces in a serious manner, with a view to achieving a dialogue capable of producing solutions.
He explained that some of the issues raised by the bloc require further understanding, consideration and development of perspectives, adding that further meetings would be held in the coming period to continue discussions and coordination.
Mirghani stressed that the preparatory phase requires identifying the parties that will participate in the dialogue and how they will participate, as well as determining the dialogue’s agenda, priorities and launch date. He stressed that once launched, the dialogue must be comprehensive and include all Sudanese from across the country, allowing for discussion of the various Sudanese issues and agenda.
The committee’s spokesperson stressed that the dialogue is based on Sudanese ownership and management, saying that the committee had not asked any regional or international party to exert pressure on any Sudanese party. He explained that its external contacts are aimed at building understanding and benefiting from international experiences without compromising Sudanese decision-making.
He disclosed that the committee had met with seven European Union ambassadors in Cairo, in addition to a meeting with the Norwegian ambassador. He said the discussions addressed the nature and inclusiveness of the dialogue and its expected outcomes, as well as drawing on the accumulated experiences of various countries, particularly Norway’s experience in peace negotiations, without interference in the dialogue’s details or outcomes.
