Khartoum (Nabaa Sudan) – The Sudanese Businessmen and Employers Federation and the Federation of Pakistan Chambers of Commerce and Industry on Wednesday signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) via video conference to strengthen economic and trade cooperation.
The MoU translates the outcomes of the Private Sector Recovery Dialogue Conference, organised by the Ministry of Finance in cooperation with the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP).
It aims to establish joint working mechanisms, exchange data and expertise, organise trade delegations' visits, exhibitions and investment events, and support research, training and capacity building.
Representing the Ministry of Finance, Tamadur Taha Abdelrahman said the MoU marks a new starting point for knowledge and technology transfer, adding that Sudan is counting on the private sector as a key driver of economic recovery and reconstruction. She called for these understandings to be translated into tangible projects.
President of the Sudanese Businessmen and Employers Federation Muawiya Al-Burair said a joint working mechanism would be established and a liaison team appointed. Areas of cooperation include agriculture, training, infrastructure, pharmaceuticals, cotton and technology transfer.
The Pakistani representative reaffirmed his country's support for Sudan's unity and sovereignty and expressed the readiness of Pakistani companies to facilitate joint investments. He also proposed an exchange of business delegations.
UNDP representative Surayo Buzurukova commended the private sector's role in supporting the economy and creating job opportunities, reaffirming the programme's commitment to supporting the implementation of the partnership.
