New York, (Nabaa Sudan) – Chairperson of the African Union (AU) Commission, Mahmoud Ali Youssouf, warned of the growing regional repercussions of the war in Sudan and the burdens it is placing on neighboring countries hosting millions of refugees.
Speaking at the first coordination meeting between the “Quintet” and “Quartet” groups in New York, Youssouf called for an immediate humanitarian truce and an end to hostilities as a step toward a permanent ceasefire, while ensuring an inclusive Sudanese dialogue.
He also called for an end to external military support fueling the conflict, stressing the need to pursue humanitarian, security, and political tracks in parallel, in a manner that reinforces each track.
According to the African Union, the meeting called for stronger operational coordination between the “Quartet” and “Quintet” groups and the development of a joint roadmap linking humanitarian action, the cessation of hostilities, and civilian dialogue.
