Vienna, (Nabaa Sudan) – Sudan’s Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research Prof. Ahmed Modawi Musa discussed with IAEA Director General Rafael Mariano Grossi ways to strengthen cooperation in the peaceful uses of nuclear energy, particularly in health, agriculture, food security, and veterinary services.
Sudan requested IAEA support for radiotherapy, a linear accelerator for the National Cancer Institute at the University of Gezira, veterinary laboratories, agricultural and food-security projects, and a blood irradiator. It also requested an IAEA technical mission to assess damage to relevant national institutions and support their rehabilitation.
Grossi reaffirmed the IAEA’s readiness to support Sudan and stressed the need to expedite the adoption of the national cancer strategy to enable Sudan to benefit from the agency’s “Rays of Hope” initiative.
