Arab League Secretary-General Nabil Fahmy affirmed the League’s steadfast position in supporting the stability of the Sudanese state, its institutions and sovereignty, as well as the unity of its territory, calling on the international community to support a political solution to the Sudanese crisis.
The Secretary-General’s spokesperson said Fahmy discussed the current situation in Sudan and developments on the ground with Sudanese Foreign Minister Mohi-Eddin Salem on the sidelines of the 166th ordinary session of the Arab League Council at the ministerial level. They also discussed recent developments related to creating a conducive environment for Sudanese-Sudanese dialogue.
The spokesperson added that the Secretary-General heard the Foreign Minister’s assessment of the military situation on the ground and stressed the need to intensify international efforts to address the humanitarian needs of the Sudanese people and facilitate the delivery of aid to those affected.
For his part, the Sudanese Foreign Minister commended the continued support provided by the Arab League to Sudan and its people. He conveyed to the Secretary-General an invitation from President of the Transitional Sovereignty Council, General Abdel Fattah Al-Burhan, to visit Khartoum. Fahmy welcomed the invitation, with the date of the visit to be determined at a later time.
