In the wake of heavy losses suffered in the fighting in Al-Kormuk, the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) militia has recruited South Sudanese mercenaries, according to informed sources.
The sources said two flights carrying foreign fighters, South Sudanese mercenaries, and RSF personnel arrived at Ethiopia's Assosa Airport following the militia's battlefield setbacks in Al-Kormuk.
According to the sources, each recruit was promised US$1,000 to join the fighting. However, the officer responsible for recruitment disappeared shortly after their arrival, leaving their promised payments unpaid.
The recruits were subsequently confined to a camp in Ethiopia's Khor Al-Dhahab area, where tensions and unrest have escalated among the newly arrived fighters, the sources added.
