Khartoum (Nabaa Sudan) – Prime Minister Dr. Kamil Idris met on Thursday with a delegation from the Eastern Africa Standby Force (EASF), headed by Force Director Brig. Gen. Ronald Rwivanga and accompanied by several members of the EASF Council of Elders. The meeting was attended by Minister of Defence Lt. Gen. Hassan Daod Kabroun.
In a press statement, the EASF Director said the meeting discussed the arrangements for Sudan to assume the chairmanship of the EASF Policy Organs Office next year. He explained that the office is one of the three organs responsible for managing the Eastern Africa Standby Force. He noted that the decision was taken at the latest meeting of the Policy Organs held in Kampala, expressing his gratitude and appreciation to the Sudanese government for agreeing to assume the position.
He added that their assessment of the security situation in Sudan confirmed the government’s ability to assume the chairmanship of the office. He said the move reflects solidarity with Sudan, as one of the member states that has actively contributed to developing the institution since its establishment.
Brig. Gen. Ronald Rwivanga said the visit had reaffirmed their confidence in the Sudanese government’s ability to manage its national institutions, lead the people and move forward with post-war reconstruction, following the destruction of numerous infrastructure facilities. He affirmed their full solidarity with the Sudanese government in its efforts to rebuild the country.
