Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research, Professor Ahmed Modawi Musa, affirmed ongoing efforts to improve conditions for faculty members and staff, in recognition of their central role in sustaining teaching and academic quality, including continued salary enhancements.
His remarks came during a meeting on Wednesday with public university vice-chancellors to oversee the distribution of financial support from the Ministry of Finance and Economic Planning. The meeting was held at the ministry’s conference hall in Khartoum, with additional participation via Zoom.
The minister underscored state recognition of university professors and the pivotal role of higher education in national development through training qualified cadres, advancing research, and serving society.
Following approval of the 2026 budget, the Ministry of Finance allocated 21 billion Sudanese pounds (SDG) to public universities to improve service conditions, cover operational and administrative costs, and support training. Funds for staff compensation will be transferred directly to university accounts and distributed across three categories: employee benefits, faculty training, and sustaining the educational process.
Director-General of Financing Manal Ahmed Al-Sayid stated that at least SDG 11.9 billion has been allocated for professors’ salaries, setting minimum monthly pay at SDG 1 million for full professors, SDG 900,000 for associate professors, and SDG 850,000 for assistant professors. She added that over SDG 7 billion has been allocated for non-academic staff, with full details to be issued in an official circular.
The meeting commended the government support distribution committee, chaired by Undersecretary Ali Al-Sheikh Al-Sammani, for establishing fair allocation criteria to reinforce stability across public higher education institutions.
