Official: Saudi Arabia, Pakistan, and Türkiye announce a joint defense agreement

Saudi Arabia, Türkiye, and Pakistan signed on Friday the “Makkah Joint Defense Agreement,” reflecting the three countries’ commitment to strengthening their shared security and achieving security, peace, and stability in the region and the world, in pursuit of a safe and prosperous future.

The agreement was signed during the “Makkah Joint Defense Summit” between the three countries by Prince Mohammed bin Salman, Crown Prince and Prime Minister of Saudi Arabia; Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan; and Pakistani Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif.

The agreement stems from the deep-rooted historical ties among the three countries, the bonds of Islamic brotherhood and solidarity that unite them, as well as their shared strategic interests and close defense cooperation.

It aims to enhance joint deterrence against any aggression and stipulates that any armed attack against any one of the three countries shall be considered an attack against all of them. The agreement also focuses on developing all aspects of defense cooperation among the three nations.

It is worth noting that Erdoğan’s and Shehbaz Sharif’s visits to Saudi Arabia came in response to an invitation from the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques, King Salman bin Abdulaziz. They were received by Prince Mohammed bin Salman at Al-Safa Palace in Makkah.

The Makkah Joint Defense Summit reviewed the distinguished relations between Saudi Arabia, Türkiye, and Pakistan, as well as a number of issues of common interest.
