The Sudanese Teachers’ Committee revealed a September 2026 cost-of-living study prepared by its Social Affairs Office, estimating that a family of five in Sudan requires approximately SDG 4.18 million per month to meet basic needs, excluding non-essential expenses. This is equivalent to about $643.
The committee said the average teacher’s salary stands at SDG 128,125 ($19.7), leaving a monthly shortfall of SDG 4,051,875. It noted that teachers’ salaries cover only 3% of essential household needs.
The committee called for an immediate increase in the minimum wage to SDG 370,500, in addition to introducing a 70% occupational allowance.
