The National Theatre reopened after rehabilitation in a ceremony attended by Member of the Transitional Sovereignty Council (TSC) Lieutenant General Engineer Ibrahim Jabir, Prime Minister Professor Kamil Idris, and Minister of Culture, Information and Tourism Khalid Al-Eisir.
Minister Al-Eisir described the reopening of the first phase of the theatre’s rehabilitation as a declaration of Khartoum’s cultural revival and a symbol of resilience against efforts to fragment the country. Speaking in Omdurman on Monday evening, he said the theatre plays a key role in preserving national memory and strengthening social cohesion. The project was implemented by the state government in coordination with the federal ministry, supported by the State Police, Intelligence Service, and the Theatre Revival Group.
On behalf of the Transitional Sovereignty Council and the Government of Hope, Al-Eisir pledged to complete the second phase of the rehabilitation, restoring the theatre’s central role in promoting Sudanese culture under the ministry’s “We Came to You” initiative. He praised TSC Member Lieutenant General Engineer Jabir, Culture Undersecretary Dr. Graham Abdel-Qadir, and Khartoum State Minister of Culture Al-Tayib Saad Eldin for their contributions.
Khartoum State Wali Ahmed Osman Hamza highlighted the theatre’s role in the struggle for dignity and social cohesion, emphasizing the importance of artists in peacebuilding.
Dr. Tarik Hassan Al-Bahar of the Theatre Revival Group described the reopening as a reflection of Sudanese national identity and announced plans for further projects, including the rehabilitation of the Folk Arts Theatre, a Khartoum State Theatre Conference, and the Dignity Theatre Festival.
