NEW YORK, (Nabaa Sudan) — Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov reaffirmed his country’s backing for the Government of Sudan and its legitimate institutions, stressing Russia’s support for Sudan’s unity, sovereignty, and territorial integrity.
Lavrov made the remarks during a meeting with Sudanese Foreign Minister Ambassador Mohieddin Salem on the sidelines of the 81st session of the United Nations General Assembly in New York.
The two sides discussed bilateral relations between Sudan and Russia and ways to strengthen them and expand areas of joint cooperation in a manner that serves the mutual interests of the two countries and their peoples, in addition to exchanging views on a number of issues of common interest.
Salem briefed his Russian counterpart on the latest political, security, and humanitarian developments in Sudan, as well as the Government’s efforts to achieve peace and stability and preserve the country’s sovereignty, unity, and territorial integrity.
The Sudanese Foreign Minister commended Russia’s positions in support of Sudan, expressing appreciation for Russia’s role in supporting Sudan and backing efforts aimed at achieving peace and stability. He affirmed Khartoum’s keenness to continue consultations and coordination with Moscow and strengthen cooperation between the two countries in various fields.
Lavrov also expressed his country’s hope for peace to prevail throughout Sudan, noting Russia’s support for the Government’s efforts to unite the national ranks and reach a Sudanese-Sudanese solution that meets the aspirations of the Sudanese people and Government.
