United Nations Secretary-General António Guterres expressed regret over the host country’s failure to fulfil its obligations under the Headquarters Agreement and the resulting delay in issuing an entry visa for President of the Transitional Sovereignty Council (TSC) Abdel-Fattah Al-Burhan to participate in the proceedings of the UN General Assembly. He commended the Sudanese Government’s cooperation in facilitating the delivery of aid to those affected.
During his meeting with Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation Mohi-Eddin Salem in New York, Guterres called for an end to the war and the suffering of the Sudanese people, stressing the importance of pursuing dialogue as a means of resolving the conflict and achieving peace in Sudan.
For his part, the Foreign Minister affirmed the Government’s cooperation with the Secretary-General’s envoy and UN agencies to facilitate the flow of aid to those in need across the country.
