Khartoum, (Nabaa Sudan) – Minister of Agriculture and Irrigation Prof. Ismat Gurashi met at his office on Wednesday with a delegation from the Supreme Council of Merowe Citizens, headed by Lt. Gen. Othman Sidahmed, to discuss issues and challenges related to the Amri National Project, as well as the outstanding needs and basic services facing the project and the local population.
The minister affirmed the ministry’s commitment to the Amri Project and its determination to address the challenges hindering its performance, stressing the importance of involving the local community in developing solutions and remedies as an essential partner in advancing the project and achieving its development objectives.
He explained that the ministry would work to meet the essential requirements for rehabilitating and operating the agricultural project by providing the necessary spare parts and equipment, in addition to preparing comprehensive proposals to address existing problems, thereby contributing to restoring the project’s effectiveness and enhancing its productivity and benefits for the people of the area.
Professor Gurashi noted that advancing the project requires continuous coordination among the Ministry of Agriculture and Irrigation, relevant authorities, and the local community in order to reach practical and sustainable solutions that support agricultural activity and stimulate development in the area.
For his part, Lt. Gen. Othman Sidahmed, head of the delegation of the Supreme Council of Merowe Citizens, highlighted the historical and developmental importance of the Amri National Project, noting its direct connection to the lives of citizens and their economic and social stability, as well as its importance to the residents of the area.
He explained that comprehensive studies conducted on the project had identified a number of problems and changes that had not been addressed, which had affected the project’s performance and the services associated with it. He stressed that the coming phase requires comprehensive action to address accumulated issues and set out practical steps to restore the project to its intended role.
The head of the delegation praised the Minister of Agriculture and Irrigation for his attention to the project and for listening to the demands and concerns of the people of Merowe, expressing hope that the meeting would translate into clear practical steps to rehabilitate the Amri Project and meet its needs, enabling it to resume its role in supporting agricultural production and serving the people of the area.
