Khartoum, (Nabaa Sudan) – The Minister of Agriculture and Irrigation, Professor Ismat Gurashi, affirmed that the country’s food security indicators are good and that there is no food shortage, noting that the country has overcome the rainfall deficit during the current summer season and that the summer agricultural season is progressing successfully.
Speaking at the Ministry of Culture and Information’s briefing forum in Omdurman, he explained that crop production during the previous season reached 1.8 million tons, contributing to the buildup of good stocks that strengthened food security. He affirmed that the quantities produced cover the needs of areas that are secure.
Regarding the winter agricultural season, the minister said that the committee tasked with ensuring the success of the season began its work two days ago. He noted that the indicative area designated for the season has been set at about 3 million feddans, including one million feddans for wheat cultivation, affirming that starting the committee’s work early will contribute to the success of the winter season.
