Al-Rahad Agricultural Corporation launched the harvest of the “China One” cotton variety in Section Four for the current agricultural season, as part of the project’s program to indigenize cotton seed production. The event was attended by officials from the corporation, the Al-Rahad Research Administration, agricultural extension authorities, a delegation from a Chinese company, and a number of farmers.
Director of Seed Multiplication Engineer Fath Al-Rahman Alouba said the area planted with foundation seed of the “China One” variety amounted to 375 feddans, noting that initial yield indicators were promising.
Director of Al-Rahad Research Administration Dr. Hassan Salem praised the crop and called for a dedicated cotton gin to be established for seed cotton. Meanwhile, the Chinese company delegation announced its intention to enter into a contractual partnership in cotton cultivation in Section Four.
Director of Al-Rahad Agricultural Corporation Dr. Hani Ahmed Mustafa said the corporation’s plan aims to expand the cultivation of foundation seed for various crops to provide farmers with improved seeds. He also pointed to challenges facing the current season, including siltation of canals and delays in irrigation operations due to the circumstances of the war.
