Cairo, (Nabaa Sudan) – Minister of Energy and Petroleum Engineer Motasem Ibrahim Ahmed held talks in Cairo on Friday with the regional representative and general manager of Chinese company Sieyuan, in the presence of Director General of the Sudanese Electricity Transmission Company Engineer Yasser Mohamed Al-Shazali, to discuss cooperation in the electricity sector and reconstruction projects.
The meeting reviewed the current status of manufacturing transformers for Merowe Dam. The two sides agreed to begin final testing of the generating transformer by the end of September and to submit a new timetable to accelerate the delivery of the Northern Transformer and its accessories, along with reactor equipment and systems.
The company also plans to submit technical proposals for supplying four emergency mobile substations with capacities of 500, 220, 110, and 33 kilovolts (kV), in addition to expanding solar and wind energy projects. The company will visit Sudan in October to conduct field assessments of the proposed sites, including the site of the wind power plant in Dongola.
The company affirmed its readiness to send specialized technical teams to Sudan to assess damage sustained by power generation and transmission facilities as a result of the war and contribute to their rehabilitation and reconstruction.
At the conclusion of the meeting, the company invited the Energy Minister and his accompanying delegation to visit China to continue discussions and strengthen cooperation in electricity, energy, and reconstruction.
