The Ministry of Agriculture and Irrigation’s Irrigation Directorate has launched a major recovery project to restore the irrigation system sabotaged and plundered by the Dagalo family militia. The project will repair 1,500 breaches in the canals to resume water flow from Sennar to the main irrigation networks.

Undersecretary for Irrigation Engineer Daw Al Bayt Abdel-Rahman, speaking in Madani Wednesday, stressed the ministry’s commitment to securing water from Sennar Dam to irrigate winter crops across Al-Gezira Scheme and support electricity generation.

He outlined plans to rehabilitate the Mena, Al-Suki, Al Rahad, and Al-Junaid pumps, and confirmed all canals, crossings, and water control structures will be transferred to Al-Gezira Irrigation Directorate, along with two cranes and 23 vehicles.

The Director of Mechanics and Electricity, Engineer Kamal Al-Din Hamza, announced the Abu Oshar irrigation workshop’s handover to Al-Gezira Scheme Administration, while Madani and Al-Gurashi workshops will continue serving other projects nationwide. He also confirmed ongoing work to rehabilitate the destroyed Al-Junaid pumping station and all canal gates, ensuring smooth water flow.
