On the second day of India Energy Week 2026, Minister of Energy Engineer Al-Mu’tasim Ibrahim Ahmed took part in a high-level dialogue titled “Global South Solidarity in Clean Energy: Strengthening South–South Cooperation for a Shared Future,” alongside Vanuatu Minister Ralph Regenvanu and BIMSTEC Secretary-General Indra Mani Pandey.
The session, attended by ministers, diplomats, and senior executives from leading Indian energy companies, focused on the expanding role of renewable energy in strengthening energy security and climate resilience in developing countries.
The minister said Sudan has adopted a strategic objective to indigenize the clean energy sector, highlighting the country’s potential in solar, wind, hydropower, geothermal, and biomass energy. He stressed that Sudan will increasingly shift toward hydropower and renewable sources as alternatives to fossil fuels.
Describing solar energy as the most suitable option for Sudan’s climatic and economic conditions, the minister noted that renewable energy is central to supporting the country’s agricultural sector. He also disclosed that the Central Bank of Sudan has allocated 12.5 percent of microfinance funding to clean energy projects in agriculture and industry, supporting the transition to a green and sustainable economy.
On the sidelines of the event, the minister met with Vitol Asia CEO Kiran Qalqar to explore avenues for strengthening cooperation in the energy sector. He also toured the accompanying exhibition, receiving briefings on the work of participating energy companies.
