Khartoum, (Nabaa Sudan) – Sudan’s Central Bureau of Statistics (CBS) announced Wednesday that the annual inflation rate rose to 26.14% in August 2026 compared with the same month last year.
In a statement, the bureau said the overall Consumer Price Index reached 742,830.07 points in August, compared with 718,930.72 points in July, representing a monthly increase of 3.32%.
The CBS attributed the rise in inflation to a sharp increase in food and beverage prices. Urban inflation reached 38.05% in August compared with the same month in 2025, while the rate in rural areas stood at 19.26%.
Prices in Sudan are facing pressures linked to the depreciation of the Sudanese pound and foreign currency shortages, which increase import costs and push up consumer prices, alongside the impact of rising global fuel and food prices.
