Federal Health Minister Dr. Haitham Mohamed Ibrahim chaired the inaugural meeting of the Higher Committee for Drug Prevention and Addiction Treatment, stressing that combating drug abuse and treating addiction require coordinated action by government institutions and civil society organizations.

He described drug abuse as a national security issue that threatens Sudan's youth and future and called for a comprehensive strategy to address the problem.

The minister also directed officials to inspect the addiction treatment centers at Abdel Aal Al-Idrisi Hospital and Al-Tijani Al-Mahi Hospital to assess their needs and announced preparations for a specialized scientific workshop on drug abuse and addiction involving relevant stakeholders.
