The first voluntary return convoy carrying Sudanese university and higher institute professors and their families has departed Cairo, as part of an initiative targeting around 1,000 returnees.
The initiative is sponsored by the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research and coordinated by the Professional Union of University and Higher Institute Professors in cooperation with the Cultural Attaché at the Sudanese Embassy in Cairo, Dr. Asim Ahmed Hassan.
The Cultural Attaché said the transportation of targeted groups will continue, noting that several Sudanese universities are contributing to accommodating returnees.
He also praised the role of the Hope Committee for Voluntary Return and the Zakat Chamber in supporting return programs. Committee rapporteur Hassan Khalid stressed that the return of academic personnel is essential for restoring the education process, while efforts continue to facilitate the return of Sudanese wishing to come back from abroad.
