Port Sudan – Federal Minister of Health Dr. Haitham Mohamed Ibrahim praised the expanding role of the State of Qatar, the Qatar Fund for Development, and the Qatar Red Crescent Society in bolstering Sudan’s health sector through sustained medical assistance and effective interventions across several states.
The remarks came during a meeting at his office in Port Sudan with the Head of the Qatar Red Crescent Society Office in Sudan, Dr. Salah Daak, and his accompanying delegation, attended by Federal Ministry of Health Undersecretary Dr. Ali Babiker Sidahmed.
The meeting reviewed a proposed field hospital project, funded through a grant from the Qatar Fund for Development, with a planned capacity of 400 beds in the Al-Multaga and Al-Dhaman areas of Northern State. The facility is intended to serve internally displaced persons (IDPs) and host communities, while also providing emergency treatment for highway traffic injuries.
Discussions also addressed arrangements for receiving medicines donated by the Qatar Fund for Development, with itemized lists prepared in line with Sudan’s essential health needs.
For his part, Dr. Daak announced that 70 trucks carrying medical supplies are scheduled for dispatch next week via Jeddah Port to Port Sudan, after which the consignments will be handed over to the National Medical Supplies Fund in Khartoum for onward distribution to the states.
