The Sudan Doctors Network said conditions inside Daqris Prison in Nyala have deteriorated into a serious humanitarian crisis, reporting that more than 215 detainees died between May and June due to the spread of disease, poor health conditions, and what it described as torture and mistreatment inside detention facilities.
In a field report, the network said 31 detainees, including children, were transferred to Nyala Hospital more than two weeks ago without any recorded illnesses and that their whereabouts remain unknown, raising growing concerns for their lives and safety.
The network called for an end to what it described as arbitrary detention, unrestricted access for humanitarian and medical organisations to places of detention, and disclosure of the fate of all detainees, particularly those transferred to the hospital and who have not returned. It also called for adequate healthcare to be provided and for independent investigations into the reported violations.
