Sudan, South Sudan Stress Importance of Health Cooperation to Confront Cross-Border Epidemics

Federal Minister of Health Haitham Mohamed Ibrahim discussed with his South Sudanese counterpart, Dr. Luke Thompson Thoan, ways to strengthen health cooperation and joint coordination between Sudan and South Sudan during a meeting held in Geneva on the sidelines of the 79th session of the World Health Assembly.

The discussions focused on enhancing joint efforts to address cross-border health challenges, particularly the spread of Ebola Virus Disease in several African countries.

The two ministers underscored the importance of information-sharing, early warning mechanisms, and coordinated cross-border action, alongside continued cooperation in light of the challenges posed by displacement, refugee movements, and mounting pressures on healthcare systems.

They affirmed that sustained coordination would contribute to ensuring the continuity of essential health services and strengthening regional health security.
