Tawila, (Nabaa Sudan) – A total of 121 new families, comprising around 605 people, arrived in the Tawila area of North Darfur State on September 21 and 22, bringing the number of internally displaced persons (IDPs) who have arrived in the area since the beginning of the month to 634 families, or around 3,407 people, according to the General Coordination of Displaced Persons and Refugees Camps.
Coordination spokesperson Adam Rijal said most of the new arrivals were women, children and elderly people, noting that some families had been displaced more than three times from areas in North Darfur, including Torra, Dar El-Salam, Dar Somayat, Alouna and Kafoud.
The coordination warned of deteriorating humanitarian and health conditions in Tawila amid shortages of food, medicine, water, shelter and sanitation services, and called for urgent intervention to provide displaced people with basic necessities.
