The International Organization for Migration (IOM) has warned that Sudan’s humanitarian system could collapse within weeks as emergency relief supplies delivered through the organization’s “Shared Humanitarian Corridor” are nearing depletion, amid a severe shortage of shelter and growing risks posed by fighting and heavy rains.

IOM Director General Amy Pope said the continuing funding shortfall would prevent aid from reaching areas most in need, noting that 8.6 million people remain internally displaced (IDPs), with about 70 percent of them living with host families or in informal settlements.

The organization said the Shared Humanitarian Corridor has reached 2.84 million people since July 2023. However, the number of beneficiaries declined from one million in 2024 to 804,000 in 2025, and to only 330,000 so far in 2026.

The organization expects its stock of shelter materials to run out by the end of September, according to UN News.
