Egypt and Eritrea have affirmed that responsibility for the security and management of the Red Sea rests exclusively with the states bordering it, in accordance with international law.

Eritrean Information Minister Yemane Gebremeskel said Eritrean Foreign Minister Osman Saleh and his Egyptian counterpart Badr Abdel-Aatty agreed on the matter during their meeting in Cairo.
