U.S. diplomat Cameron Hudson warned the UN Security Council that foreign actors and arms suppliers are fuelling Sudan’s war, calling for urgent action to halt external interventions.
Hudson accused the United Arab Emirates of operating a military airlift over the past two years, delivering weapons to militias across Chad, Libya, the Central African Republic, South Sudan, and Somalia. He said these arms have enabled militias to commit war crimes in El-Fashir, including ethnic cleansing, mass killings, and burning victims’ bodies.
He urged immediate measures to protect civilians, lift sieges in Kadugli and Al-Dalang, and halt attacks on infrastructure. Hudson warned that continued foreign support risks Sudan’s fragmentation and threatens stability across the Horn of Africa and the Red Sea region.
