Nyala (Sudan Nabaa) – A flight scheduled to transport a number of Rapid Support Forces (RSF) personnel to one of the combat fronts was cancelled after an airstrike targeted Nyala International Airport earlier this month, disabling an aircraft that had been stationed at the airport, according to Darfur24, citing three RSF military sources.

The sources said the flight had been scheduled for September 6 and 7 to transport soldiers to combat fronts in the desert along the Sudan-Libya border, but was cancelled following the airstrike on the airport.

Two RSF soldiers, who requested anonymity for security reasons, said they arrived at the airport at around 7 p.m. in preparation for the deployment. Less than an hour later, they heard a loud explosion inside the airport compound, causing panic among the soldiers. They were then informed that the flight had been cancelled and postponed until the following day.

According to local residents, Nyala Airport witnessed increased air traffic during August and September, with aircraft landing and taking off during daylight hours.

Since the RSF reopened Nyala International Airport on September 24, 2024, the city has become a logistical hub for the forces fighting the Sudanese army. Nyala was previously designated as the administrative capital of the “Tasis” alliance government.
