Sudan's Zakat Chamber signed a memorandum of understanding with the Sudanese Embassy in Cairo to settle the debts of 300 Sudanese debtors imprisoned in Egyptian prisons, paving the way for their repatriation to Sudan.

The signing ceremony, held at the Sudanese Embassy in Cairo's Fifth Settlement district, was attended by Minister of Human Resources and Social Welfare Mua’tasim Ahmed Salih and Sudan's Ambassador to Egypt, Imad-Eddin Mostafa Adawi.

Speaking at a press conference following the signing, the minister highlighted the Zakat Chamber's role in supporting indebted prisoners and noted its significant contribution to voluntary return initiatives for Sudanese citizens.

He also praised the Sudanese Embassy in Cairo for its efforts to address the needs of Sudanese nationals affected by the war in Egypt.

The minister further revealed that arrangements are underway to repatriate stranded Sudanese nationals from Libya, Uganda, and South Sudan. He said the operation will require approximately 650 flights as part of the government's voluntary return plan to expand repatriation efforts in the coming period.
