KHARTOUM (Nabaa Sudan) – Sudan Electricity Holding Company announced on Monday that five power substations were targeted in drone attacks early Monday, cutting electricity supplies to the states of Sennar, Al-Gadharef, White Nile and Al-Gezira and causing a complete blackout across the southeastern power grid.
In a press statement, the company said the targeted substations were located in Sennar, Al-Hawata, Al-Faw and Mashkour, in addition to the Al-Junaid substation in Al-Gezira State. It noted that the attacks caused extensive damage and destroyed parts of the substations’ equipment and infrastructure.
The company warned that the damage to the substations posed a threat to the stability of the national electricity network.
It added that its engineering and technical teams had been mobilized to reach the affected substations, assess the damage and begin the technical work required to repair the faults and restore service.
The company affirmed that its personnel were continuing their efforts to restore electricity supplies and stabilize the national grid as quickly as possible, without specifying when power would return to the affected states.
