EU-Funded EQUIP2 Project Concludes in Paris, Paving Way for Sudan’s Teacher Training Reform

The Education Quality Improvement Project (EQUIP2), funded by the European Union, concluded in Paris, paving the way for its third phase. Attending the closing ceremony, Dr. Amin Awad-Al-Seed, Director of the National Teacher Training Center, highlighted the severe impact of Sudan’s war on education, including school closures and displaced teachers and students. He praised Expertise France for resuming project activities to support Sudanese teachers and refugee children in Egypt, Chad, and Ethiopia.

EQUIP2 delivered training manuals and a digital platform, adopting a participatory approach that positioned the National Centre as a co-owner. Key achievements include validated training materials, a “White Paper” outlining reform plans for three years, and bridging the historical gap between pre-service and in-service teacher training. The Centre now aims to unify training methodologies, strengthen trainer capacities, and expand its digital platform with an integrated professional numbering system.

Dr. Awad-Al-Seed thanked the EU for its ongoing support and expressed hope that EQUIP3 will further develop a cohesive, effective teacher training system in Sudan.
