Sudan's Minister of Finance, Dr. Gebreil Ibrahim, arrived in Brussels on Wednesday to lead the country's delegation to the 121st Ordinary Session of the Ministerial Council of the Organisation of African, Caribbean and Pacific States (OACPS), being held on July 15–16.
The session brings together ministers and representatives of OACPS member states to review the organization's work, strengthen cooperation among its members, and discuss the implementation of the Samoa Agreement, the partnership framework signed in November 2023 between the European Union and OACPS member states.
On the sidelines of the meeting, Dr. Ibrahim is scheduled to hold talks with OACPS Secretary-General Moussa Batraki on expanding cooperation between Sudan and the organization, with a focus on technical assistance and capacity-building to support the country's economic recovery and sustainable development priorities.
The Finance Minister is also expected to meet with several participating ministers to discuss ways of enhancing bilateral economic and financial cooperation, exchanging expertise, and strengthening partnerships of mutual interest.
Sudan's participation underscores the government's commitment to strengthening its engagement in regional and international forums and advancing multilateral cooperation in support of development, stability, and stronger partnerships.
The Ministerial Council is also expected to consider a resolution granting Sudan a full or partial waiver of its outstanding US$1 million debt to the organization in recognition of the exceptional economic challenges resulting from the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) rebellion.
