The Rapid Support Forces (RSF) deliberately destroyed and concealed evidence of large-scale mass killings in El-Fashir, North Darfur, a new report by Yale University’s Humanitarian Research Lab reveals.
Using satellite imagery and remote sensing, the lab documented around 150 sites consistent with human remains following the RSF’s entry last October. Dozens match reported field executions, while others correspond to civilians killed while fleeing.
Within a month, nearly 60 of these sites disappeared, and eight new excavation areas emerged near mass killing sites, suggesting systematic disposal of bodies.
The report estimates tens of thousands of victims and describes the killings as large-scale and methodical. The RSF’s takeover sparked international condemnation amid reports of extrajudicial executions, systematic rape, and mass detention of civilians.
Humanitarian organizations and the United Nations continue to demand safe access to El-Fashir, which remains cut off from communications and where tens of thousands of civilians are trapped, many reportedly detained by the RSF.
